Frisco Rumor Mill

The latest whispers and speculations about exciting local developments, from potential new biz openings to upcoming community projects and events everyone is talking about.

  • Mavs fans are currently experiencing all five stages of grief: Last weekend, the Dallas Mavericks traded their star point guard Luka Dončić for the L.A. Lakers’ center Anthony Davis. Dončić, who was practically penciling in his five-year, $345 million contract extension while leading Dallas to the Finals last season, was reportedly swapped due to injury concerns. Meanwhile, L.A. is busy dreaming up a new dynasty with their shiny new toy.

  • All Stars Cricket Arena is expected to open in mid-February. The 4-acre, 32-lane facility will be one of the largest cricket training and competition facilities in the country - very befitting of Sports City USA, right? (Looking for other places to play cricket? Read this article.)

  • Among the many things discussed at last night’s Town Hall, the City of Frisco encouraged residents to download the Frisco Police Mobile App - a convenient way to connect with the PD for general matters. Other topics included the Rail District Redevelopment Plan and Frisco’s absence of an animal shelter - which a lot of residents have a lot of feelings about. Watch the meeting and read the live comments here.

  • Fans of the cooking competition show Top Chef should mark their calendars because the SAVOR event at Omni PGA Fricso is bringing your favorite celebrity chefs together for a culinary extravaganza! From May 1-4, enjoy four days of dining, live music, and a celebrity golf invitational.

  • The new Baylor Scott and White “Golden Gate Hospital” is not your average medical center. The $265 million project is located on 37.1 acres at the northeast corner of Dallas Parkway and PGA Parkway, near the soon-to-be Universal Kids Resort. We hear it will emphasize women’s healthcare and will feature outdoor trails, open green spaces, and a wing that decoratively nods to the annual Academy of Country Music Awards in Frisco. Wait, there’s more - it will include a playground for kids that draws inspiration from the Milky Way galaxy. The play space will feature a series of interactive planet climbers and steppers arranged to resemble their positions in space. View a rendering of it, below.

Batter up, Frisco! “Sports City USA” is gearing up to host the 9th annual Frisco College Baseball Classic, a premier early-season event in college baseball. This three-day tournament, set to take place at Riders Field, promises to deliver high-octane action featuring some of the nation’s best collegiate baseball teams.

The Texas Legends take on the Mexico City Capitanes on February 7th and 8th at Comerica Center. Affordable and fun, Legends games are family-oriented and provide a great opportunity to experience pro basketball close to home.

A handful of 🔥hot headlines🔥 from elsewhere.

  • Jaden Smith waltzed onto the Grammys red carpet early on Sunday night in a black Louis Vuitton suit with a castle on his head. Yes, a castle. 🤔 Not sure what else to say about that…

  • Punxsutawney Phil made his annual weather forecast on Sunday, proudly stepping into his new role as a dad after he and his wife, Phyllis, welcomed two adorable groundhog pups last spring. Phil saw his shadow, which means six more weeks of winter. The silver lining? While Phil might be an excellent father, his meteorology skills leave much to be desired. According to the NOAA, his predictions are only accurate 35% of the time.

  • PGA veteran Jason Day donned a full gray sweatsuit on Sunday at Pebble Beach, drawing gasps and harsh critiques from across the fashion-conscious golf world. His response on Instagram? “Lost my luggage 🤷🏽‍♂️.”

  • Karate Kid fans are ready to sing “You’re the Best” one more time as they prepare for the series finale of Cobra Kai. It’s been 40 years, 7 months, and 23 days since Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) first faced off in The Karate Kid, and these two frenemies-turned-senseis are heading back to the Valley for one final showdown. The new trailer for Cobra Kai's last five episodes gives us a sneak peek at the chaos awaiting the Miyagi-Do dojo.
