Welcome back to Frisco FYI, the official newsletter of Lifestyle Frisco!

Why does losing one measly hour of sleep induce such a massive sleep hangover? As we groggily adjust to Daylight Savings Time this week, Texas Senator Paul Bettencourt has filed a bill to let Texans vote on whether to stick with Standard Time or keep the twice-yearly clock chaos of DST.

As you read this week’s edition of Frisco FYI, consider what you like, dislike, or wish for in a local newsletter. We want to be your favorite; how can we stand out in your Inbox? 👇👇👇👇

The Office Irish GIF

On Monday, March 17th, we all become Irish for a day. Why? Because we like the whole “Kiss me, I’m Irish” vibe, the green beer, the beads, and any excuse to have a good time in the name of tradition-approved galavanting about town.

Be sure to hashtag your shenanigans properly because those of actual Irish blood will come for you if you write “Happy St. Patty’s Day” instead of “Happy St. Paddy’s Day.”

Here are a few places to get Irish-themed food and drink this week:

🍀 St. Patrick’s Day at The Rail Yard: On March 17th, they’re hosting a party featuring live music from the Emerson Band, green beads, and green beer.

🍀 3 Days-O-Fun at Three Empires Brewing: A St. Patrick’s-themed trivia night, a music bingo night, and an all-day party, beginning Thursday, March 13th.

🍀 Irish Fare at PGA of America: March 15-17, Ryder Cup Grille, Ice House, and Lounge by TopGolf will each feature Irish-themed menus, and all district outlets will have green beer.

🍀 Thirsty Lion Gastropub at Grandscape: March 15-17, enjoy a weekend celebration featuring an Irish-inspired menu, bagpipers, Irish dancers, and specialty drinks.

  • 2026 will mark term limits for Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney, opening the door for qualified candidates to put their names on the ballot. First to submit her bid, Shona Sowell has announced she’s officially running for Mayor of Frisco, launching her campaign well ahead of the election to allow residents time to get to know her POV on all things Frisco density, economy, public safety, and stewardship. No stranger to serving our city, Shona served for 6 years on the City Council. Will anyone raise their hand to run against her? Likely so, and as soon as we hear about it, we’ll let you know.

  • Stix Icehouse in McKinney shook hands with Frisco, establishing an agreement to allow the indoor/outdoor playground/restaurant space to rent the city’s property in two 10-year leases. The proposed Frisco location would be built inside a city-owned site at the corner of Cotton Gin Road and Dallas Parkway, the restaurant’s second location and its first outside of McKinney.

  • We told you about Fritz’s Adventure a couple of weeks ago and promised to get you an update: it’s official, the new family-friendly fun zone will open in The Colony on April 2nd. Tickets are on sale now; get yours!

  • In February, the Frisco Economic Development Corporation launched a pioneering Venture Capitalist in-Residence (VCiR) program, appointing Jon Nordby as VP of Corporate and Innovation Recruitment. • After months of uncertainty, the future of Staley Middle School (in need of $7-$10 million in plumbing repairs) is becoming clearer. The official recommendation presented to the Frisco ISD board on March 10 was to retire the campus. Frisco Fact: Staley MS was built in 1973 as the original Frisco High School and renovated in 1996 to become a middle school.

Recommendation of the Week

Did you know you can save your Instagram stories and posts? 📷 📱

One of the reasons people continue to use Facebook is the "On this day” throwback feature. For many, literally the only reason they still post to the OG Meta platform is to save memories. But what about all those fantastic filtered Instagram posts we thought could only be saved via screenshot?

Turns out, there are settings inside the Instagram app for this. Tap your profile picture (bottom right), then the menu button (top right): Choose Archiving and downloading, then turn on all four toggle switches. This means both posts and stories get saved to your phone’s library.

For “how to” images and additional IG exporting tips, check out “How to Save Instagram Posts.”

(a.k.a. your next dream home.)

A handful of 🔥hot headlines🔥 and odd stories from elsewhere.

  • Mondelez is packing its Sour Patch Kids and Swedish Fish with turmeric-extract to make the candies fluorescent under blacklights. We wonder, do they come with the blacklight included, or do we all need to purchase one from Amazon?

  • Scientists have developed a device to recreate the flavors of food and drink, allowing them to be shared remotely in seconds – but they haven’t yet cracked spicy food. “E-taste” is now a thing, and we bet something else we never knew we needed until it was invented is coming soon.

  • After taking away the open seating option last year, Southwest Airlines is kicking customers while they’re down. The Texas-based airline has abandoned its famous free checked bags policy as it revamps operations amid economic concerns.

  • In a recent interview, country superstar Luke Combs opened up about his experience living with purely obsessional obsessive-compulsive disorder, informally known as Pure O, a subtype of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) characterized by intrusive, distressing thoughts.

Question of the Week

Help us write a new “best patios” feature. Which restaurant or coffee shop has the best patio in Frisco? Do you love it for the ambiance, the menu, or both? What’s the best thing on the menu? Tell us all the things!

Sports Spotlight

In Frisco, soccer is more than just a sport—it's practically a way of life. With FC Dallas thrilling fans, kids' rec leagues filling up every weekend, and countless soccer clubs dotting the landscape, it's safe to say we live and breathe soccer. And let's not forget that the 2026 World Cup is coming to Dallas, and Sports City USA fully intends to leverage every minute of it.

But if you think we take our soccer seriously, wait until you hear about the Royal Shrovetide in Ashbourne, Derbyshire. The objective of the game? To get a ball into the opposing team's goal, which could be miles away and involve navigating through rivers, hedgerows, and the occasional crowded street. If you're ever in the mood for a game of soccer that feels more like a scene straight out of a medieval action movie, head to Ashbourne. Just remember to leave your soccer cleats at home and bring your sense of adventure—and maybe some body armor.
