Beyond Frisco

A handful of 🔥hot headlines🔥 from elsewhere.

Reese Witherspoon's Snow Cream Melted the Internet: Reese Witherspoon's viral "Snow Ice Cream" video has the internet divided like a snowball fight at a summer picnic. On one side, you have the adventurous foodies who are now whipping up "snow cream" recipes faster than you can say "frostbite.” On the other side, the skeptics are clutching their air purifiers, horrified at the thought of eating snow that's been marinated in pollutants. One thing's for sure: Reese has turned a simple snow day into a culinary controversy that's as frosty as it is funny. Who knew a little snow could cause such a flurry of opinions?

Don’t Take My TikTok: The looming possibility of TikTok disappearing after January 19, 2025, has teens and professional "tiktokkers" in a state of digital despair. It's like someone threatened to take away their Wi-Fi and replace it with dial-up! Teens are frantically searching for new platforms to showcase their dance moves, while professional users are contemplating a career change to mime artistry. The internet is buzzing with memes of people clutching their phones, praying for a last-minute miracle. If TikTok does vanish, we might just see a new wave of "TikTok Anonymous" support groups popping up everywhere!

The Birkin Brouhaha: Imagine the luxury world clutching its pearls as Walmart's $80 "Wirkin" bag, a cheeky knockoff of the iconic Hermès Birkin, sent fashionistas into a tizzy. It's like finding a gourmet meal at a fast-food joint—unexpected, controversial, and oddly satisfying.

Banished Words of 2025: Lake Superior State University annually releases a list of "banished words" to spotlight overused, misused, or unnecessary vocabulary. This year's list includes terms like "era," "sorry not sorry," and "dropped," encouraging people to rethink their word choices (especially if you uttered the word “skibidi” even once in 2024).

AI Ascends, Humans Hold Ground: In the race for the fastest-growing jobs, AI roles like Engineer and Consultant are rocketing to the top, while human-centric positions such as Physical Therapist and Travel Advisor remind us that some skills are irreplaceable. Meanwhile, post-pandemic trends are boosting demand for frontline roles, making the job market a fascinating blend of tech and touch.

Sports Spotlight

We proudly call our city “Sports City USA” – a fitting nickname by all counts – but with great power comes great responsibility, right? Dallas Cowboys and MLS soccer aside, there are a lot of Frisco kids competing in a lot of competitive sports any given weekend, and research shows that children who specialize in a sport before the age of 14 are more likely to burn out, quit sports, or experience long-term health issues. Scottish Rite for Children has some food for thought to offer parents as they strive to raise well-balanced athletes.

Rec of the Week: Volunteer Opps for Teenagers

Get ready to discover your next obsession. Each week, we handpick a gem just for you—a binge-worthy podcast, a must-have product, or an interesting news story.

In Frisco, community service hours are not required for high school graduation. Still, students who complete all requirements of the Community Service Program will be recognized at their graduation ceremony with a colored cord, and will be honored in the graduation program. Meanwhile, community service is often a requirement for certain organizations or clubs, like the National Charity League or Young Men’s Service League, and it’s critical to the college application process.

So, we’ve prepared a run-down of Volunteer Opportunities for Teenagers in Frisco! Share it with a friend!

ICYMI

We understand, there are a lot of emails in your Inbox. That’s why we’re here with the “In Case You Missed It” moment from last week’s newsletter.

Kids are begging their parents for them and social media creators are finding success making review videos. Somehow, a single cookie franchise that started in Logan, Utah in 2017 has turned into a $1B business selling over 300M cookies. Yet, the beloved Crumbl is not the only place in Frisco crafting these confectionary delights.
