⸺Local News and Events + Hot Topics Beyond the Bubble

Welcome back to Frisco FYI, the official newsletter of Lifestyle Frisco!
We’ve got a lot to talk about this week, but first things first: See the cute kids playing baseball up there? If you’ve got a young baseball player, a wannabe baseball player, or a neighbor with a baseball player, that memo is for you. Click on it. ⚾
Next, we have a lot of new subscribers — which is AWESOME — but sadly, that means they missed our earlier editions in 2025. But no worries — we can catch you up pretty quickly.
Here’s the ICYMI Frisco scoop of late:
Frisco is buzzing about new developments like Universal Kids, Fields West, Music Street, and The Mix;
The proposed Frisco Center for the Arts and the potential closure of Staley Middle School add drama, with the latter facing funding challenges;
Downtown revitalization and Toyota Stadium renovations aim to rejuvenate the heart of the city ahead of World Cup 2026;
As the May 3rd election nears, City Council and FISD Board candidates promise sustainable growth, fiscal responsibility, public safety, infrastructure improvements … and the typical stuff like that.
Some residents are unhappy about the lack of an animal shelter, declaring that in Frisco, the motto is: "If it's not a vanity project, it's not worth mentioning.” (Don’t shoot the messenger; just reporting.)

Top 5 Things to Do This Week
🏃♂️Texas Big Star: The annual Texas Big Star Half Marathon and 5K is back on the campus of Collin College this Saturday, April 12. If you’ve spent more time on the couch than the treadmill this year, no worries — the event includes a 1-mile family run and culminates in a lively Finisher’s Fest.
⛳🍲 A Taste of Augusta: If you’re among the millions of fans watching that little golf tournament that takes place every year in Georgia, PGA Frisco invites you to join “A Taste of Augusta,” from April 10-13, featuring dishes served in honor of past Masters champions.
🧘♀️🎶 SaturYAY at Kaleidoscope Park: Grab your family and friends to kick off the weekend at Frisco’s newest Instagram-worthy outdoor entertainment space! Come prepared for a beginner’s yoga class, a petting zoo, live music, and more.
🗳️Candidate Forum: Hosted by the Frisco Chamber, you can get to know the candidates for the Collin College Board of Trustees, Frisco City Council, and Frisco ISD Board of Trustees on April 10 at 6 pm (in-person or online). Early voting begins April 22; election day is May 3.
⚽ FC Dallas: Our favorite MLS team takes on Seattle Sounders FC this Saturday at 7:30 pm at Toyota Stadium! You can catch it on Apple TV, but in-person is way more fun.

Frisco Rumor Mill
The latest whispers and speculations about exciting local developments, from potential new biz openings to upcoming community projects and events everyone is talking about. Have a scoop or thoughts about the headlines below? Send us a note.
Firefly Park is set to become another “premier mixed-use, vibrant community hub. (We like the phrases “mixed-use development” and “community hub” a lot around here. 😄) The project will feature Class A office space, retail, dining, and entertainment areas, plus a Dream Hotel. Residential options will include townhomes and high-rise units. A standout feature will be the 45-acre park, complete with illuminated outdoor art walks, hike and bike trails, playgrounds, lakes, a wedding chapel, and an event lawn with an amphitheater. Follow the construction updates here.
Their sports stunts and trick shots made Frisco-based group Dude Perfect a YouTube sensation. But to leverage their viral fame into new business ventures, the dudes needed a CEO. Enter Andrew Yaffe, the former NBA exec who took the helm in late 2024 - stepping into a group with $100 million burning a hole in its pocket. As it turns out, he has a few tricks of his own.
While Frisco eagerly anticipates the opening of Music Street, our neighbors in McKinney are gearing up for a $220 million Sunset Amphitheater — the future home of a world-class 20,000-seat outdoor music venue powered by Troy Aikman’s EIGHT Elite Light Beer.
We generally try to keep things light here, however, we want to acknowledge the devastating loss, deep trauma, and emotional distress that many people are feeling following the tragic event last week at an FISD track tournament. 😔 Our hope and prayers are focused on restored hope and peace for all. ❤️
Letters to the Editor (+ Brag Alert)
For the past couple of weeks, we've been all ears, inviting you to share your thoughts on the proposed Frisco Center for the Arts project. The campaign signs boldly claim it "costs nothing, changes everything," promising long-term benefits. However, some of you have raised concerns about the $160 million bond funding and the risk of unsecured private funds. Here are a few of your comments:
“It’s hard to support a project that will support Prosper ISD families when the Frisco community did not support Frisco ISD bond projects this past November.”
“This seems like an easy Prop vote to me. A fantastic arts center and performance hall without any tax increase? Is there something I'm not understanding?”
“Regarding the $160 million bond proposal for a new arts center, I hope it will not pass. I have 2 objections why: The City of Frisco refused to put an animal shelter on the bond election a few years ago, which is very badly needed in our city of approximately 225,000 people. We need that much more than another entertainment option. Take care of basic needs first! Second, our economy is questionable and in turmoil right now. I’m concerned about people losing jobs and affording basic necessities like housing and food. This is not the right time to splurge on an entertainment project when there are more urgent needs in our community.
Meanwhile, we also shamelessly polled our audience for feedback on the Frisco FYI newsletter. Here's our humble brag (and thank you for your positive vibes!):
“I LOVE IT! Keep the info coming!”
“Nice coverage of the goings on in Frisco!”
“Very informative. Enjoyed the light-hearted touches and humor from time to time. Well written.”
“Love all of it. Can’t wait to hear about the patio scene! Really wish there were more rooftops in Frisco and MORE LIVE MUSIC! Thx for being AWESOME!”
“I hadn’t heard the Mayor’s term was expiring...I love getting the scoop! Also, so well written and perfect use of memes! I for real L(d)OL!!”
“I love being involved in a city and its goings-on! I also want to make positive contributions to the city. More to come from me and excited to see all the positive energy in and around Frisco.”
Aw, shucks. Just so you know, we also welcome constructive criticism. It might sting a little…but send it.
Submit a letter to the editor and we’ll publish the responses in a future edition of Frisco FYI! Tell us anything!

Trending Topics Beyond Frisco
A handful of 🔥hot headlines🔥 and odd stories from elsewhere.
Dallas-y stuff:
DFW has eight semifinalists for the 2025 James Beard Awards (which are considered the Oscars of the restaurant industry). The semifinalists include two bars, several chefs, and a bagel shop. Notable mentions are Apothecary and Bar Colette in the bar categories, Mābo for best new restaurant, and Starship Bagel for outstanding bakery.
The last time Luka Dončić played a game at American Airlines Center, he was a member of the Dallas Mavericks. Tonight, he’ll return as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite Doncic’s return reopening wounds for Mavs fans, ticket prices are up and those who see the world “glass half full” will watch with expectations of a good outcome.
A nationally ranked program for supply chain pros has come to Dallas: With increased demands from customers, suppliers, and shippers, the University of Arkansas’ Master of Supply Chain program will equip professionals with advanced knowledge of sourcing, planning, logistics, and new product introduction.
Non-Dallas-y stuff:
In a plot twist worthy of a diamond pickaxe, the Minecraft movie starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa has defied all expectations and critics' lukewarm reviews to craft a whopping $157 million at the domestic box office in its opening weekend. It seems that collab with McDonald’s was a pretty good idea. The film set a record in its genre and left industry insiders scrambling to understand how a movie about pixelated blocks could build such a monumental success.
And for kids born way before Minecraft was a thing — it's the 40th anniversary of the beloved classic movie "The Goonies." Do the Truffle Shuffle and celebrate that after decades of rumors, Steven Spielberg has finally endorsed a sequel — proving the mantra that Goonies “never say die.”
